Aikido

AI   合   Harmony/Union

KI   気   Spirit/Life energy

DO 道   Way/Path

Aikido often translates as The way of the harmonious spirit or The way of unifying life energy. It is a martial art that focuses on blending with the energy of your attacker in order to defend yourself with a throw or a pinning technique.

Aikido includes striking, throwing and pinning techniques as well as weapons practice, where we use Jo (4 foot wooden Staff), Bokken (wooden sword) and Tanto (wooden knife).

At the MBK Dojo we practice the independent style of Black Star Aikido. MBK Dojo Cho Andrew Leighton currently holds the rank of 5th Dan and is Shidoin (senior instructor) at BSA. http://www.blackstaraikido.com

Goshin Jutsu

GO 護 Protect/Defend

SHIN 身 Body/Self

JUTSU 術 Technique/art

Goshin Jutsu is often translated as Body protection art or Self defence.

The main focus in Goshin Jutsu is developing self defence skills.

This can differ from other martial arts practice where the focus can be more towards fighting skills.

The aim of Goshin Jutsu is not to fight but to use our martial arts skills to protect ourselves and others from harm.

In our Goshin Jutsu classes students learn valuable self defence skills including awareness and avoidance of dangerous situations. De-escalation techniques to prevent physical violent confrontation. Physical self defence techniques including striking, throwing, grappling and breakaways to escape harm.

We also include self defence from various weapons and multiple person attacks.

At MBK Dojo we believe that self development is equally important to self defence. With this in mind in our classes we include physical fitness training, meditation and the power of positive thinking.

It is important to us that our students develop strong bodies and minds.

Our Goshin Jutsu is affiliated to the Ketsuen Dojo where Dojo Cho Andrew Leighton currently holds the rank of 4th Dan.

Kudo Japanese MMA

Kudo is a mixed Budo sport comprising full contact striking, throwing and submission techniques.

Kudo is a great way to pressure test our martial arts skills.

MBK Dojo Lead instructor Andrew Leighton is working with Kudo England to bring this exciting martial art to our dojo and to help the growth of Kudo in England.

We operate a Kudo study group (KSG-Staffordshire) from the dojo under the guidance of Kudo England.

With this connection to Kudo England we have opportunities to attend Kudo seminars and events throughout the UK and abroad.

Our members will also have the opportunity to join the Kudo International Federation and take gradings in the art.
